Day 2 Monday 16 May

An early start followed a hearty breakfast where it was off in convoy to LeMans to the Alain Prost Race Circuit for a morning of karting. The weather was good and getting better, the kart's and the circuit were quite superb. After practice and qualifying (of which I qualified first) it was the big race, with a full Le Mans-style ' make a dash for it' start (of which I saw my team mate throw away my well-earned lead and finished the first lap on sixth, nice one, cheers Si) .

The race was excellent and even the people that at first were not all that excited by the idea of karting, were soon totally into it (definitely more of this next year).

We all had lunch at the circuit and then it was blast off, en route for St Emillion, Bordeaux.

We had been travelling for around 20 miles and I got a call from Marcus and Dave in the M3 screaming “we’re getting pulled over, but we’ve done a hand brake turn, sped up a country road and we are currently hiding in a barn”(in full Dukes of Hazard style).

After this adrenalin pumping incident things did seem to calm down with a fantastic run to the amazing châteaux in St Emillion with one or two cars being tugged and receiving 90 Euro fines.

The biggest drama of the day (thank the lord) being the BMW Alpina Cab over- cooking its gearbox and needing swift attention. We were all at bit paranoid of the police knowing our every move by now, so all the cars were stripped of their discrete liveries and then we skinned the rabbit.

We all had dinner at the châteaux, and drinks on the west facing terrace and watched the sun set on another eventful day.
