Day 3 Tuesday 17th May

Day three was a lazy start coupled with a wonderfully relaxed breakfast. Under beautiful blue skies we all left the châteaux, it was 73 degrees, perfect!. We all stayed in convoy except for the two Porsche 997's who got it all very wrong somewhere. The convoy of cars looked and sounded amazing with the whole group playing cat and mouse.

The big bullies, Bentley GT, Mercedes SL55 AMG and Ferrari 550 Maranello were flexing their muscles and proving that on the big open roads there is no substitute for brute horsepower.

Mark and Simon in the Bentley GT passed us at full chat and the best way to describe the sound of that beast is Thunderous. On several occasions we sat alongside Jon and Ritchie in the Mercedes SL55 AMG, in the right gear and gave them that look that only means “drag race”, our BMW M3 which had been tuned to almost breaking point would pull half a car's length as the Mercedes SL55 AMG went trough its kick down motion and then the catch up and pass. This happened every time, with each time seeming even more effortlessly, hey ho!

It was then decided to re-group in Pas De La Casa in Andorra to pick up one or two of the rear end stragglers. This appeared to be a great idea, however, 7000 feet above sea level in blizzards in one of the most depressing looking towns I have ever seen, this turned out to be not such a hot idea. It was a quick coffee before the 7000 feet hazardous decent began.

The roads that carried us all down the sides of the mountains on the way towards Barcelona were breathtaking and great fun in convoy. It was fun to be stuck on the back of Mark and Paul in the Porsche C4S, the overall poise of the car made it look like gravity has been turned up, with exception of the occasional rear end twitch on the real quick bends, Porsche 911's eh, don't you just love them! Fish and Rob in the Ferrari 550 Maranello were doing well and it was starting to look like the winning formula of last year was going to prove to be unbeatable this year, especially as the Ferrari appeared to be fully equipped with stealth gel, they had not been tugged by the plod even once! The grid style road system in Barcelona was ballistic and the boys without sat nav even though equipped with maps, struggled big-time.
