After breakfast overlooking Lake Geneva, we all made our way to the car park ready for the off. We all set off at the same time and we all agreed to take it very easy through Switzerland. This restraint lasted about 500 yards and this £1m convoy of cars soon woke up the plod, resulting in a police car, all lights blazing overtaking our convoy and pulling in front of us. As the Rabbit-Runners tried to overtake the police car it swerved in front firmly shutting the door. The police car then pulled on to the hard shoulder expecting all of us to stop, the BMW Alpina did with the Porsche GT3 and a now frustrated Matt and Chaz in the Porsche 997 coupé. The rest of us passed, with the Porsche 997 cab being stopped as he didn't avoid eye contact. So Simon and I in the BMW M3, Bill and Jenna in the Audi A6 4.2, Vin and Raj in the Audi S4 and Jonty and Giles in the Porsche C4S left the motorway at the next exit, passing Jon and Ritchie in the pulled Mercedes SL55 AMG. One of the pulled cars rang us and said “they are looking for you” so it literally was a break for the French border, nailing it around the most amazing alpine roads Switzerland had to offer. With the border now in site we let Bill and Jenna in the Audi A6 4.2 go first as it was the most discreet car, but they were pulled, and the car was stripped. Then a bit of luck, as out of a side road, three cattle trucks were pulling out, so the rest of us tucked up behind each cattle truck, it worked perfectly and we were free and mile munching rapidly towards Paris, some where along the way we lost Vin and Raj in the Audi S4, Raj's fault! (according to Vin) The Ferrari 550 Maranello between water top up stops was running fine however they had been stopped at the Swiss boarder for 50 minutes (stealth gel running a bit thin boys) which had really thrown the cat amongst the pigeons with regards to the overall positions. Greg and Steve in the Saab, as usual were making good progress coupled with good range, were fast becoming a serious contender. Marcus and David in the BMW M3 were blatting along and although Brett and Chris in the Porsche 997 cab had a slow (police interrupted) start, they were going like a bat out of hell with Paris firmly in their sites, Bill and Jenna were now free of customs and flying (now Jenna was at the wheel). The big 4.2 A6 was blowing out some serious smoke. Marcus and David in the BMW M3 arrived in Paris first with Simon and I second (a BMW M3 1st and 2nd!) third should have been Bill and Jenna in the Audi A6 but I lost them after making a very late manoeuvre up a slip road (I didn't mean it Bill honest), but third of this stage went to Giles and Jonty who had spent two days in my rear view mirror, the back of my car misses you guys. Within the next half hour the rest of the cars arrived, except one. Where was that Ferrari? I finally got hold of Fish and with around 50 miles to go they were using more water than petrol and decided to call it a day. So a breakdown truck and a hire care later they arrived last and deflated, but it caused great excitement and people were starting to guess who was 1st 2nd and 3rd in the overall standings. The evening started with drinks in the bar and then dinner in the hotel's restaurant. The final top 3 were: 1st - Greg and Steve - Saab
Unfortunately Greg's Ronart Lightning caught fire 2 weeks before Rabbit Run was due to leave, however this didn't seem to hold him back, well done Greg & Steve. ![]() 2nd - David and Markus - M3
3rd - Brett and Chris - 997
Snail - Audi S4
